"We made it unnecessarily tight"
Post-match reaction as HSV pick up their seventh home win of the season with a 2-1 victory over Eintracht Braunschweig.
Gui Ramos: I'm very happy with my first goal for HSV. It was a very emotional moment. We also got the win, even though we made it unnecessarily tight at the end. We needed to out the game to bed earlier and control it better. We definitely need to keep working on these things and improve. We’ve got a special game in store for us next Friday and we have to be focussed on doing our job.
Stephan Ambrosius: Defence can win you games and that’s what we showed towards the end. We got a bit lucky with the offside goal and you could see how quickly a game can turn. That's football. We have to learn from it and do better in the next game. Of course we're looking forward to the derby; it's a special game.
Robert Glatzel: We made it unnecessarily tight. We can't be pleased with the second half; maybe we were a little bit too confident. We addressed it clearly at half-time, but we should have played better in the second half. We were lucky with some situations, including the offside goal, but at the same time we had some big chances on the counter that could have put the game beyond doubt. Nevertheless, we're delighted with the win. Home wins can never be taken for granted. We will get back to work tomorrow and then it's into the derby week. A derby is a derby - it doesn't matter how you feel going into it, they are games with their own rules.
Immanuel Pherai: I had a feeling that I was going to score against my former team. So many team-mates and people had told me that I was going to get my first goal today. Only football writes stories like that. Because I already had it in my head that it was going to happen, it wasn't difficult for me to control my emotions when I scored and I had already decided that I wasn’t going to celebrate against my former team. We didn't play well in the second half. We wanted to do better than the end of the first half after the break, but we let up a bit instead.
"What matters is the result. We got the win." Tim Walter
Tim Walter: Firstly, we wish a speedy recovery to Saulo Decarli. It's always crucial to put people first and I hope he gets better soon. What matters for us today is the result and we got the win. We performed well in the first half and were very committed despite having to make a number of changes. The boys did well. Then, unfortunately, we started the second half in a poor way and we lacked a bit of confidence and ended up conceding a great goal to Kaufmann, who did the same last season. When that happens, it’s normal that the opposition comes back into the game. I said it before the game: you can’t beat teams if you’re not fully committed. Braunschweig were well prepared for that and we had to dig in. In the end, we had a bit of luck on our side, which is something that we may have lacked in previous years. Therefore we're happy with the win today.
Daniel Scherning: It was a difficult game for us, especially at the start, because HSV are a great team in possession. For me, they are the best team in the league; they have the best players and a good philosophy. We knew what to expect and defended quite sensibly. Then we conceded twice in two minutes and then there was the injury stoppage after the collision, which made it difficult to get back into the game. We were too anxious and didn’t use some of our chances and went into the break 2-0 down. We then made some changes and our second half was very good. We deserved the equaliser and then had a bit of bad luck when we scored it – the offside call was a matter of centimetres. The video referee is always fair in these situations, but it's not so easy to come back after such emotions and then the subsequent blow. We tried everything; we can and have to build on the second half.
