“We had no cutting edge”
HSV were beaten by SC Paderborn on Sunday, ending their 11-match unbeaten run. The Rothosen were obviously disappointed when they spoke after the game.
Daniel Heuer Fernandes: We had control of the game in the first half, but we were too sloppy in the second and were unable to regain that control. A level of control is vital for our style of play. That’s why we’re disappointed with this performance. We’ll stay calm and focused and keep working though, so, over the next few weeks, we can go back to getting the good results we were getting in the last few weeks.
Daniel Elfadli: That was a very disappointing day overall. The first half wasn’t what we were hoping for, but we still played okay. In the second half though, we were miles off how we want to play. We couldn’t create enough in attack, had no cutting edge and didn’t make the right decisions. We just didn’t produce what we wanted to do on the pitch. All in all, it was really disappointing.
Davie Selke: We had a few good attacks today, but couldn’t turn them into goals. Particularly in the first half, we won the ball back well and were dangerous going forward. It wasn’t like that after the break though, so we’re not happy with the performance or the result. Unfortunately, we couldn’t take advantage of the big opportunity we had today, but we’ve already dealt with so many setbacks. We’ll come back stronger from this.
“We’ll make sure that we show a different side to ourselves at the Volksparkstadion next week”
Merlin Polzin: We carried out our game plan quite well in the first half, both with and without the ball. In the second though, we didn’t do that enough. Paderborn played really well today, which was also a factor. We didn’t make the right decisions today though and were too impatient with our pressing. We didn’t play out from the back bravely enough and didn’t score from any of our attacks. Therefore, we’ve ended up losing this game against an opponent who made it very difficult for us. We’ll analyse the match and make sure that we show a different side to ourselves at the Volksparkstadion next week.
Lukas Kwasniok: The team thoroughly deserved this victory. We worked unbelievably hard today and managed to frustrate the opponents over the full 90 minutes. We didn’t play particularly well in the first half. During the break, I told them that I wasn’t happy with the performance. We changed it up tactically in the second half and conceded hardly any chances, other than when Dompe hit the bar. We made it difficult for the opponents with our physicality and mentality.phere at the sold-out Volksparkstadion.
