“We had a very clear game plan”
HSV reacted well after last week’s defeat to secure a deserved 3-0 win over SV Wehen Wiesbaden. The reactions from the Rothosen camp after the game were overwhelmingly positive.
Sebastian Schonlau: We go home with a confident 3-0 win. It feels really good and it helps us to go into the international break in a positive mood. Ludo did very well defensively at right-back, and pushed the ball forward into the middle third of the pitch. He took to the unfamiliar position well and was always involved defensively. For the fans as well as ourselves it was important that we showed some unity before and throughout the game. We always want to be able to stand together in front of the Nordtribüne to celebrate victory, and we achieved that today. It always takes a bit of time for a new coach to get his ideas across to the team. That’s normal.
Laszlo Benes: I’m very happy with today –we won 3-0 at home. It was a very important victory. We’ve got a short break now, and then we carry on. We have to take the positives from today into our next game. I’ve been practicing set-pieces a lot recently with Merlin [assistant manager Merlin Polzín]. Today I realised the opponents didn’t have anyone behind the wall. I was pretty sure the wall was going to jump and I wanted to score that way. At 3-0 I saw Ransi and Bobby making runs towards the far post, and I spotted the gap there too. I’m very happy to have been able to contribute to the win with my goal and assists.
Miro Muheim: If you don’t shoot, you don’t score. We had a lot of shots on goal today and were unlucky with blocks and hitting the woodwork. At some point luck has to be on your side, which was finally the case with my goal. That’s why I’m not complaining. We made some changes to our build-up play and the coaching staff prepared us very well for today’s opponent. It was obviously nice to be able to play today despite missing some training sessions. Today went really well for me, though, and hopefully I’ll be back in full-time training from now on.
"Wins like today always do the team good" Ludovit Reis
Ludovit Reis: I played as a right-back out of possession for the first time in my career. It felt good. For me, it is just about giving 100% both in defence and in attack. Together we played well, we were also much better in possession today than in recent weeks. We were very certain in our game. Wins like today always do the team good. We didn’t have an easy week, but we always stay together. There was intensive analysis and today we did a lot of things better. We are together – not just us as a team, but also the club as a whole, together with the fans. In football, it’s normal that first of all you have to get to know a new coach and their way of playing. We are working to improve every day and keep looking forward. We have a good team and can win any game. It’s just down to us to do that.
Ransford Königdörffer: Luckily, I managed to get on the end of the ball to make it 3-0. I thought that it was going to be a floated cross but then the ball was flat – it was a great pass from Laci. I am pleased about every minute of playing time that I get and am trying to use every single one as best I can. Today I managed to do that and scored, I’m obviously pleased about that. We are only looking at ourselves. We have to do our own thing. As long as we win, everything’s good.
Steffen Baumgart: A 3-0 win sounds good and it was too. We deserved to win by this margin and played well for large parts of the game. We nullified Wiesbaden’s strengths by winning a lot of second balls and then putting them under immediate pressure. We were a bit sloppy on a few occasions, but the way the lads worked was good. We’ll take the win. There were a lot of positives, but also plenty of things that we didn’t quite do perfectly.
Markus Kauczinski: The game started okay for us. We had a good chance with Robin Heußer free on goal. HSV kept stepping up the intensity and we couldn’t get out. We lost the ball too quickly. We completely switched things up for the second half and felt like we were getting into dangerous areas of the pitch, but their second goal really killed us. We didn’t really threaten again after that. We were too tame and didn’t play with enough bravery. You need to play a lot differently and with a different mindset if you’re going to make life difficult for HSV. We’re in a relegation battle and have to start improving. This is now the decisive part of the season. HSV were the better side today and they deserved the win.
