“We didn’t let ourselves be affected by the two injuries”
Despite having two players go off injured early on, HSV still beat SpVgg Greuther Fürth 2-0 on Saturday afternoon. Here is the post-match reaction.
Jonas Meffert: We had to cope with two serious injuries to Ini and Ludo at the start of the game. I’m proud of the team and of how we stood tall. We kept on going and scored at the right moments, which helped us to gain further self-confidence and created more space for us. You could see that on the counter, where we did very well except with the final pass or shot.
Laszlo Benes: We created a lot of chances today and could’ve scored more goals. I always to be on the ball and it’s also one of my strengths to set up my teammates from a central position. It was a lot of fun today. Additionally, it’s positive that we kept another clean sheet. The only negatives are the injuries to Ludovit Reis and Ignace Van der Brempt. They are extremely important for us.
"Ferro showed why he’s the best keeper in the league" Immanuel Pherai
Immanuel Pherai: We created a lot of goalscoring opportunities, but we needed to score more goals today. Therefore, we ought to thank “Ferro”, who showed why he’s the best keeper in the league and once again kept a clean sheet.
Daniel Heuer Fernandes: It’s just awesome and a lot of fun to play football in front of this crowd. Maybe, that’s why we are always a little better at home, even though we still feel this support away from home. We approached the game with a lot of energy and passion throughout all 90 minutes. Our chance conversion could’ve been a bit better. This would’ve helped us to be calmer. All in all, it was a commanding performance. Most of all, I’m pleased with the way we played.
Dennis Hadzikadunic: We definitely could have scored more goals today, but ultimately getting the three points was all that really matters, plus we kept another clean sheet. My partnership with Gui Ramos in defence is going from strength to strength with every game. We are working well as a team overall too – we keep on showing that we can deal with injuries and suspensions.
"I’m really satisfied with the lads today" Tim Walter
Tim Walter: Playing against Alex’s sides is always enjoyable because he likes his team to play with real intensity and the games are often really open, as was the case again today. It was end to end, but we defended well and showed some real energy on the ball. We didn’t allow ourselves to be affected by the two early injuries. We showed that we wanted to win the game right from the start. My team did really well against a Fürth side that increasingly looked more dangerous. I’m really satisfied with the lads today.
Alexander Zorniger: It was the kind of spectacle that had expected and feared in the end. We were too slow mentally when we had the ball and too sloppy. There were a few passes from our side in the first half that were simply not good enough at this level. Nevertheless, we still had a lot of chances that we didn’t take. When you consider how much we invested into today’s game, to lose it 2-0 is really disappointing.
