"We couldn't be more frustrated"
HSV lost 4-3 for the second home game in a row. The players were correspondingly frustrated after the full time whistle.
Matheo Raab: Personally, I was pleased to be in goal today. I have supported ‘Ferro’ the whole time and he does the same for me, and especially today. Speaking for our whole goalkeeping team, that is something that makes us stand out. Everyone is pleased for each other. Apart from that, it’s bitterly disappointing that having come back we didn’t get our just rewards. We didn’t start the game well and conceded too many easy goals. Adding to that is an unnecessary red card and the fourth goal we conceded in the final minutes. We have to learn from this. In that moment, we also lacked a bit of smartness. We always have the aim to win games, but sometimes you have to take a point and not take too many risks.
Laszlo Benes: The player was running in front of me and I wanted to prevent him running freely at the back-four. I wanted to play the ball, but unfortunately made contact with him and that’s obviously not what I wanted to do. I’m sorry. This red card hurt the team. It’s very disappointing. Unfortunately, we are conceding too many goals. I can’t explain how we won every single game at home in the first half of the season and have now conceded four goals twice.
"It is difficult to understand how a game like this can happen to us again after the one against Karlsruhe" Robert Glatzel
Robert Glatzel: This one really hurts. We have missed out on an enormous opportunity today. You can also see that from the reaction of the fans, who, like us, were also extremely unhappy. The 2. Liga is too good for you to be able to come back from 2-0 down every time. It is difficult to understand how a game like this can happen to us again after the one against Karlsruhe. We woke up too late again and ended up beating ourselves again.
Jonas Meffert: That’s twice in a row now that we’ve conceded too many goals at home. There are obviously lots of reasons for this. We were missing some determination, trust in playing out from the back and some concentration at times today. We have to do better: This also means maybe taking a point at 3-3. The fan’s frustration is understandable, after all as players we feel exactly the same. Not one of us is happy today, we couldn’t be more frustrated.
Tim Walter: It was an eventful evening. We didn’t start the game well, and went behind twice due to a set-piece and a deflected ball. We then came back well, before making a careless mistake in defence and going into half time 3-1 down. Then we started well and made it 3-2, before the long break in play that followed. Then we got it back to 3-3 with a set-piece for the second time. The red card was a gamechanger. We also had more good opportunities in attack when a man down, but then made a decisive error in defence. Then it was all over for us. We have to talk about how many goals we are conceding at home. We are very disappointed. There is a lot of anger in us which we now have to convert into energy.
Stefan Leitl: We’re very happy. It was an intense game. Congratulations to my lads, they put in place what we set out to do: We were hard to play against, intense and despite this played football. We had a fantastic first half, then HSV came back. You have to accept that because there was a good plan and a good team behind this. At 3-3, we made changes, we wanted to go ‘all-in’ to still win the game. The sending-off played right into our hands. All in all, it wasn’t an undeserved win.
