Vuskovic to the Euros - Königsdörffer makes his debut
European Championship ticket solved, World Cup ticket in sight - the international match Tuesday was a complete success for the two HSV representatives Mario Vuskovic and Ransford Königsdörffer.
This evening could not have been more dramatic for Mario Vuskovic. With the Croatian U21 national team, the centre-back was fighting for the ticket to participate in the European Championship 2023 and went into the decisive second leg with a 2-1 lead after the first leg against Denmark. However, the Croatians were quickly trailing 0:2 before they managed to score the goal to make it 1:2 and the match had to be decided in a penalty shoot-out after a goalless extra time. Vuskovic was the first Croatian to score, and he did so, laying the foundation for the 5:4 victory and the dramatic U21 European Championship.
"I am very proud that I was able to play for my country"
Not quite as exciting, but celebratory, was the international match night for Ransford Königsdörffer. Hamburg's attacking all-rounder was in the Ghana national team squad for the first time after not making it into the final matchday squad for the game against Brazil at the weekend. But on Tuesday night in the 1-0 win in the test match against Nicaragua, the time had come - and in the 81st minute, "Ransi" was indeed substituted, thus celebrating his international debut for Ghana. "I am very proud that I was allowed to play for my country and I hope to see all my team-mates again in November," said the debutant. Of course, the long-term goal is to participate in the World Cup at the end of the year, for which Ghana has qualified. So it remains exciting, also in the coming weeks with HSV. Königsdörffer: "Now I'm looking forward to returning to Hamburg to attack with the team in the league."
