Van der Brempt: “It’s the perfect fit”

Having spent 18 months at FC Red Bull Salzburg (January 2022 to July 2023), HSV loanee Ignace Van der Brempt arrived in Hamburg with an already solid grasp of the German language. His first press conference since joining the Rothosen saw him open in German, before switching to English later on. The 21-year-old had just taken part in his second training session with his new teammates, and spoke to the press about his impressions so far.

…joining HSV: I quickly came to my decision after my discussions with Claus Costa and Tim Walter. They really wanted to sign me and laid out a clear plan that really fit well to my own ambitions. It’s a perfect fit. 

…connections within the team: I’ve been playing against Andras Nemeth since we were both in the U16s, and I played against Jean-Luc Dompe in senior men’s football in Belgium. I’m able to speak Dutch with Ludovit Reis and Immanuel Pherai, which is very helpful for me right now. 

…his style of play: I’m able to adapt quickly, which is important under Coach Walter. We have a lot of options at each position and always need to be alert. I like that, because I enjoy taking up space and having the freedom to make decisions.
