“Two teams that can play really nice football”
This Sunday sees fifth come up against second in the table at a sold-out Volksparkstadion. Just one point separates HSV and 1. FC Magdeburg, so it’s set to be an exciting game. HSV coach Steffen Baumgart discussed the matchday 9 clash at the pre-match press conference.
HSV’s clash on Sunday (20th October) at 13:30 CEST at home to 1. FC Magdeburg sees Steffen Baumgart come up against his former club, who are currently second in the table and unbeaten. Magdeburg have won four games this season – all their away matches – and drawn four times. It’s therefore going to be tough for HSV to secure their third home victory of the campaign. The coach talked about his squad and the match at Friday’s press conference. Steffen Baumgart discussed…
…his starting XI: Silvan Hefti and Dennis Hadzikadunic are both suffering from knocks so we’re not yet sure about their availability, we’ll have to wait until tomorrow to know. Aside from Bobby Glatzel, we’ve got everyone else to choose from. Davie Selke and Ransford Königsdörffer will definitely start up front, but there won’t be too many changes to the side overall. When you win 3-0 in Düsseldorf, you can’t have done much wrong. As a result, that team deserves to play again.
"A lot of things have come together in Magdeburg, they’re developing nicely"
…deciding whether Daniel Heuer Fernandes or Matheo Raab starts in goal: I’ve not yet made a final decision and will wait until training on Saturday, but I’m still considering my options. I definitely will only make a decision regarding the next game and will not jump to any conclusions beyond that. I will keep a close eye on the developments. In Ferro and Matheo, we’ve got two very good goalkeepers and it’s a tough decision because they both want to be number 1.
…Magdeburg: Christian Titz has done a great job at FCM over a long period of time. They’re really building something and they’re not near the top of the table by chance. I think Magdeburg will be a rival when it comes to winning promotion this season. They have a clear style of play, operate at a high intensity, press high up the pitch, get stuck in and have recognisable patterns. A lot of things have come together there, and in combination with the increased depth in their squad, they’re developing nicely. I’m looking forward to a great game between two teams that can play really nice football.
