Training begins ahead of trip to Regensburg
Hamburger SV have picked up preparations for their upcoming game in Regensburg, as training resumed on Tuesday.
After HSV’s 3-2 win in front of a crowd of 70,000 at the Olympiastadion in Berlin, head coach Merlin Polzin first joined in on the celebrations with the team and his staff, before giving an interview with one of the broadcasters on site. “We can be happy with the result, but we have to also focus on the details, because I saw several things in the way we played today that still need to be improved on,” he said. Two weeks later, following the Rothosen’s 2-1 win at Preußen Münster in front of 12,000 fans, Polzin once again celebrated with his team before giving another interview. “We’re extremely happy about having won such a tough match,” he said. “The coaching staff will rewatch and analyse this match during our bus ride back home.” From these two examples, it’s possible to draw two key characteristics of Polzin’s approach: namely, that hard work and meticulousness come first.
Polzin is still unbeaten across his first eight matches as head coach, and has taken 18 points from these games (W5, D3). He’s taking this same meticulousness and focus into a new week of training, as HSV prepare for their next game. Fabio Balde was able to complete parts of team training again, before joining fitness coach Sebastian Capel for an individual session. Robert Glatzel, Matheo Raab, Immanuel Pherai and Aboubaka Soumahoro were also all training with Capel as they continue to work on their comebacks.
