Squad update ahead of the Nürnberg game

HSV returned to the training ground on Tuesday ahead of the final game of 2023. Several players only completed parts of training, while Daniel Heuer Fernandes was missing, but for a good reason.

HSV’s away game at 1. FC Nürnberg on Saturday afternoon is the final game in the first half of the 2023/24 season and also their last match of an eventful calendar year. Head coach Tim Walter began preparations for the trip down south on Tuesday afternoon (12th December), the first of four scheduled sessions this week.

Heuer Fernandes has become a father

Stephan Ambrosius and Ignace Van der Brempt, who were both forced off with injuries in the 2-1 home defeat to SC Paderborn at the weekend, didn’t complete the full session, working on their recovery alongside long-term injury concerns Ludovit Reis and Anssi Suhonen. Winger Jean-Luc Dompe, captain Sebastian Schonlau and centre-back Valon Zumberi all worked individually and in parts with the ball. Daniel Heuer Fernandes was missing from the Volkspark on Tuesday, however for a positive reason. The 31-year-old goalkeeper became a father for the first time in the morning and will return to training on Wednesday. Tim Walter will also be hoping more players can make a comeback to team training in time for the weekend.
