Walter: “We’ve had a good, energetic week”
In the press conference ahead of the final league game of the year at 1. FC Nürnberg, HSV head coach Tim Walter spoke about the squad, the upcoming match and the situation as a whole.
Tomorrow afternoon, HSV will make the trip to Bavaria, where the Rothosen will visit tenth-placed 1. FC Nürnberg on Saturday (13:00 CET). Head coach Tim Walter’s side will want to cap off an intense 2023 with a victory on matchday 17 in Bundesliga 2. The 48-year-old talked about how they are planning to achieve this and who will be available for the game at the press conference this Thursday afternoon. He spoke in detail on...
...the squad: A few players returned to training today and could maybe be available for the game on Saturday. We’ll have to wait and see how they’ve coped with today’s session. That particularly applies to Jean-Luc Dompe and Ignace Van der Brempt. It’s a tough one to call. It’s looking good for the other returnees in terms of the game.
...the away match in Nuremberg: It’s time for us to win an away game. That’s our plan. We’ve had a good and energetic week. The lads are very positive and our focus is completely on this game. Last season, we had the best away record, while this season we have the best home record. Now we have to look at the overall table again. We would have liked a few more points, but we’re not too far from the top two and want to close the gap.
...mistakes in their own game: At first glance, there are obviously some outstanding issues which directly lead to us conceding. Upon closer look, I also see errors in our attack where we are far too careless with our chances. We’ve had the most clear-cut chances in the league so far, but haven’t managed to make the most of them. That’s been the case for us throughout the first half of the season. Against Paderborn, for example, we won a solid number of tackles, but didn’t make anything of them. However, that's then overshadowed when, for example, a player slips and causes us to concede.”
“That’s our aim for the winter break, so that we can make a strong start to the second half of the season. We’ve got other aspirations. We want to win, we want to get promoted.”
...the situation as a whole: We haven’t always had the opportunity this season to play the way we wanted to. We often had to adapt our style of play and didn't always perform in the way that has brought us and the fans together on so many occasions over the past two years. This is partly due to injuries and new players who weren’t yet fully integrated into the team. It’s all the more important that the captain is now back in action, so that we can combine what we’ve learnt and adapted together. That’s our aim for the winter break, so that we can make a strong start to the second half of the season. We’ve got other aspirations. We want to win, we want to get promoted.
