“We kept believing until the end”
Hamburger SV stayed patient until the end of their away match in Münster and scored a winner in added time for a 2-1 victory. The Rothosen expressed their pride with their resolute performance at the end of the game and their third win in three matches since returning from the winter break. Read all the post-match reaction here.
Davie Selke: It was exactly the sort of hard-fought contest that we were expecting. It was important that we stuck to our principles and kept calm despite going behind. We stayed composed today, equalised at the right time and kept believing until the end that we could win the game. We were unlucky earlier in the game when we hit the woodwork twice, but I was fully convinced that we’d still win. And we did it as a team, too. That’s why this win is a massive for us. I’m really proud of us all, because you can see a clear improvement.
Jonas Meffert: We really wanted to stay patient. I’ve heard that word more this week than I have ever before. We knew that it would be hard today. We wanted to play with concentration. The goal we conceded was preetty unfortunate, but we kept believing in ourselves. At the end of the game, we were also a bit fortunate with the penalty. Maybe the holding all added up over the course of the game. I’m really happy that we won here today.
"We stayed calm and kept playing our way" Merlin Polzin
Sebastian Schonlau: We said the whole time that we would need to be patient today, and we believed right up until the end. We played well for the whole game, even though we ended up going behind, but we kept at it, created a lot of chances for ourselves and ended up getting a well-deserved victory. Of course, we’re over the moon that the game turned out this way.
Merlin Polzin: Playing here in Münster is very demanding, we know that. We accepted the challenge head on, though, and got the reward for our efforts. We had a lot of chances, kept our cool and continued playing our way. That’s the most important thing, and why I’m so proud of the team. Today was an important step in their development and process.
Sascha Hildmann: For me, the incident in added time wasn’t a penalty, which is why this loss is so bitterly disappointing for us. I can’t fault my team, they gave it their all, but we weren’t clever enough in some moments. It was obvious that HSV would get chances because of their individual class and they hit the woodwork twice, but it’s still a disappointing result.
