“That was one of my most emotional goals”
HSV put in a strong performance to win 3-0 at 1. FC Nürnberg, and Glatzel’s header not only marked his comeback after injury, but was also a heartfelt moment. All in all, a successful afternoon for the Rothosen - here is the match reaction.
Robert Glatzel: I’m obviously really pleased to have scored, especially after the good chance I had just before that. At the time, I was thinking this might not be my day, but then it worked out. That was one of my most emotional goals after this long spell out with injury. I simply had to celebrate it in front of the fans in the away block, so I had to tear away from my teammates a little bit to run over to the fans and then also continue celebrating with the team. It was a very special moment, and it was also the cherry on the cake for the win, and the team’s success is the most important thing.
Ludovit Reis: It was an important win for us after a very positive week of training. We worked hard in Spain, focusing on the details and worked together well. You could see that in today’s game. The game naturally progressed well for us, but what was important was that we kept going when they went down to the ten and we never let up, instead going after that next goal. It’s such a great bonus that Bobby was able to get his goal. Simply put, we’re a great unit and like a family - by that I mean the team but also together with the fans.
Sebastian Schonlau: It was a great performance and a deserved victory. We had several good chances in the second half and could have put the game to bed earlier than we did. But I’m not trying to criticise, as it was a really good afternoon for us and everyone performed well, from back to front. After the sending off, we knew we needed to keep going, because in the phases that followed, you could see just how good Nürnberg are at football. However, we saw that part of the game out and kept our concentration up until the end, and it’s just great that Bobby was able to score at the end.
"It was a very good and focused performance and an absolutely deserved victory"
Lukasz Poreba: I’m extremely pleased that we won, especially because of how well we played. It was even better that I was able to play from the start. I wasn’t nervous, because I know what I have to do on the pitch and was very focused, which meant I could give my best performance to help the team. It’s nice that it went as well as it did today, it was a very good and focused performance and an absolutely deserved victory.
Merlin Polzin: We as HSV can be very pleased today. We knew how difficult a game was in store for us today, because it’s challenging to face a side who play like Nürnberg do. We were able to take an early lead and then had the momentum on our side thanks to the red card. I was less pleased with the phase of the game which followed. We spoke at half time and said that it’s not about managing the result but showing our ability on the pitch. We were a lot better in the second half. We were also able to score from a corner once again, our eighth of the season. It’s an important part of our game.
Miroslav Klose: We did okay to deal with the early red card, that can be said, but naturally it had a decisive impact on our game. Despite being a man down, we tried to play with the ball, but it was difficult. A few decisions also didn’t quite go our way, which I can’t really understand. At the end of the day, we faced strong opposition and given how the game went, there wasn’t really anything in it for us today.
