“There are days where you’re always a millimetre off”
HSV and SV Elversberg could not be separated on Friday evening, playing out a scoreless draw Despite both sides having a lot of chances, it seemed as if the ball just would not go in. Read all the post-match reaction here.
Daniel Heuer Fernandes: We took the bull by the horns, tried a bit of everything, looked for a winning goal and strove to score by the end of the match. But today we were unlucky, hitting the post twice and having a couple of chances that we just didn’t convert. It wasn’t exactly a vintage performance from us, we’ve got to admit that. We kept things tight at the other end of the pitch and cleared the danger before they could score. It’s hard to win against us. We’re staying positive and we’ll keep working.
Jonas Meffert: In my view, we’ve let two points slip. Keeping another clean sheet is a good sign, but we just couldn’t put the ball in the net at the other end of the pitch. Elversberg played really well, they’ve got a quality team. Still, I think that we were better and would’ve deserved to win. We would’ve liked to have gotten the three points for the fans, too, whose support for us was exceptional again today. But we were just missing the final piece of the puzzle today, also with our luck in front of goal. Still, there were a lot of positives, and we’ll keep working.
"We didn’t have much luck in front of goal" Daniel Elfadli
Marco Richter: We knew what we’d be coming up against, but it just wasn’t our day today. Even though we really like playing in the evening under the floodlights. You’ve got to admit that Elversberg have a good team and played really well again today. In my opinion, we still deserved to win, but I’ve been having a lot of bad luck with the woodwork this season, otherwise we could’ve come away with three points. But I’ll keep trying, and we’re staying positive.
Daniel Elfadli: We had a few really good chances in the first half. In another game, they would’ve gone in. We defended well today. We didn’t have much luck in front of goal. Elversberg are well-drilled and they’re a very disciplined unit on and off the ball. They made our lives difficult.
"It just wasn’t meant to be today" Ludovit Reis
Davie Selke: It was a difficult game to describe today. We kept things solid defensively. The performance wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t great either. We applied pressure and had our moments offensively, but not with the same space that we’re usually afforded. That’s down to Elversberg defending well, though. We were hoping for a sucker punch right up until the final whistle, there were a few that went really close. But that’s how we ended up drawing. There are days where you always get a good connection with the ball and other days where you’re always a millimetre off.
Ludovit Reis: Unfortunately, we didn’t use the chances we created today. Elversberg also did a good job. We tried everything. The chances that Davie had, Marco’s shot or my header – it just wasn’t to be today. Maybe it wasn’t our best performance, though we also didn’t lose and drew instead.
"It was the hardest puzzle we’ve had to solve here at home in my spell as head coach so far" Merlin Polzin
Merlin Polzin: We played a very good team today. It was the hardest puzzle we’ve had to solve here at home in my spell as head coach so far. We still managed to create a lot of chances over the course of the game. The substitutes also gave us another boost and we continued to carve out opportunities over the course of the game, even though we were just lacking that extra bit of luck in front of goal. It’s incredibly important to me that we’re hard to beat. We’re all clear on the path forward and also know that we’re going to have to give it our all in every remaining 2. Liga game. You could see that today. That’s why we’ll keep looking over the tactics and start working again tomorrow.
Horst Steffen: It was an intense game, with both teams trying time and again to get forward and create chances. It was even for a long time, even though we were then very fortunate to escape from the closing stages with a draw. We were out on our feet and looked beaten from the 80th minute onwards – including added time. We still tried to defend. I’m proud of the boys for their performance today – they really fought. HSV really put us to the test today. Kudos to them for their performance.
