HSV head coach Markus Gisdol has made the Japanese international his captain.
HSV head coach Markus Gisdol is aiming to bring new impulses to his team. The former Hoffenheim boss has made one major change ahead of the final six Bundesliga games of the year, naming Gotoku Sakai as the new Rothosen skipper. Gisdol is hoping to bring a new culture to the team with the appointment. Apart from that, Gisdol also announced that German hockey international Tobias Hauke (until now involved in media matters at the club) has become the new team manager.

"A great honour"
Gotoku Sakai is delighted: “It is a great honour for me to be able to lead the team out as HSV captain. I will do everything possible in my power to justify the move. Right now though, the most important thing is that we have to perform as a unit in order to gather points and ease the current situation.”
His predecessor Johan Djourou still part of the team said: “Giving Gotuku the captaincy is okay with me. Sometimes such things release new strengths and impulses and we must try to make the most of that. During this difficult time, we as a team have to do everything possible to turn things around.”
