Kühne Holding AG secures traditional name Volksparkstadion

Second-largest shareholder gives HSV the right to name the stadium "Volksparkstadion" until summer 2023. Board member Dr. Thomas Wüstefeld: "I see this as a strong sign and commitment to our chosen path."

Good news for HSV: The Red Shorts will continue to play their home games at the Volksparkstadion. Kühne Holding AG, which is controlled by Klaus-Michael Kühne, has secured the traditional name "Volksparkstadion" for HSV with immediate effect and also for the coming season. HSV board member Dr. Thomas Wüstefeld, who personally led the negotiations with the second largest shareholder of HSV Fußball AG, considers Klaus-Michael Kühne's decision to be a trend-setting one: "I am very pleased and feel that this is a strong sign of our tradition and a commitment to our chosen path."

Klaus-Michael Kühne: "With Dr. Wüstefeld, a man has taken over the management of HSV Fußball AG who works with as much circumspection as he does drive. This opens up completely new perspectives for our HSV: momentum in management should also give the team more verve and quality. Of course, the finances also have to be right, and I am happy if I can make a meaningful contribution to this: The name "Volksparkstadion" stands as much for my hometown of Hamburg as it does for HSV, which is rich in tradition."

Kühne Holding AG had first secured the naming rights for HSV's home stadium in January 2015 for a period of four years and decided at that time to return to the old, traditional name: Volksparkstadion. In April 2019, Kühne Holding initially did not renew the contract the following year, but resumed talks with HSV at the beginning of 2022.
