Jonas David extends contract and joins Hansa Rostock on Loan
The 23-year-old centre-back extends his contract until 30th June 2025 and joins fellow 2. Bundesliga side Rostock.
Shortly before the end of the transfer window, HSV have another contract extension and a temporary exit to announce: defender Jonas David has been loaned to fellow 2. Bundesliga side Hansa Rostock. Prior to this, the 23-year-old centre-back extended his contract, previously running until 30th June 2024, by a further year. “Jonas has always shown exemplary behaviour, not letting his head drop over the last fews days and of course giving everything in more than 50 games for HSV in the past two seasons. Therefore, we didn’t want to deny his request for more playing time and we wish him all the best for his time in Rostock,” says director of football Claus Costa.
David is now entering his tenth year with HSV. The Hamburg-born defender joined his hometown club from Eintracht Norderstedt for the 2014/15 season. After his second division debut on 3rd August 2018 and a loan to the Würzburger Kickers on 1st June 2020, he featured in 59 competitive games for the first team and developed into an established part of the defensive unit. David has, however, not recorded any minutes on the pitch this season. He will likely get more in Rostock.
There will be an immediate reunion on the coming Sunday 3rd September (kick-off 13:30 CEST), when HSV host FC Hansa at a sold-out Volksparkstadion on the fifth matchday of the current second-division campaign. David could take part in the match, but this time in a different outfit.
