Jonas Boldt: "We want to get everything out to make the second half of the season successful".
At the start of the Rothosen's winter training camp, HSV board member Jonas Boldt spoke about the upcoming week, the situation on the transfer market and the return of injured players, among other things.
The HSV squad successfully arrived at the So/Sotogrande resort on the Costa del Sol yesterday afternoon (2 January). Over the next six days, the Rothosen will prepare for the remaining 16 games of the 2021/22 2. Bundesliga season. HSV board member Jonas Boldt has already been on site for a little longer and has already been able to get a good impression of the excellent conditions in Andalusia and is full of beans for the start of 2022 and the associated training camp in southern Spain. "Let's talk about football," the 39-year-old said on the sidelines of the first training session in Sotogrande at the start of a press round with regard to the all-prevailing topic of Corona and then commented on the current topics surrounding the Red Shorts
Jonas Boldt spoke in detail about...
... the coming days: "For us, the training camp plays a big role for the sense of community. We want to sharpen our senses again, work together intensively and create a bubble again. We are among ourselves here, the conditions are great, the sun is shining - this is a special experience from which we try to get everything out to make the second half of the season successful. The atmosphere in the team is good. At the beginning, a lot of things were new and we had to find our way. In the course of the season so far, something has noticeably grown. We are counting on this development to continue, because in the last few years it was also because there was a break at some point. The more stable and solid the whole construct is, the higher the probability of preventing such a rupture.
... the current transfer period: We haven't made any transfers yet and, as always in January, we will watch the market very closely and check what makes sense in the end. There are a few exciting things and we always observe whether topics become more concrete. Experience shows that there is movement in the market in the course of the month. The clubs are all starting up again now. If one can improve, then we will strike. We have tried and succeeded in this more often in the past years.
... a transfer of Faride Alidou: There was contact with Eintracht, but we have different ideas, so we don't say we have to do that, but the player can continue to play for us. Faride is an important player for us, so we will keep him with us unless the situation changes. Of course, there is a risk that if he doesn't perform well in a game, some people will be critical of him. He is no longer the player who plays the first few minutes. But he seems clear in that respect and the coach is also keen on him.
... returning players: With Daniel Heuer Fernandes, Maximilian Rohr, Josha Vagnoman and Stephan Ambrosius, four players who have been absent recently are slowly returning. For them, the training camp is a good gauge of where they stand. If these players return, we will have a few new old players to rely on. It would be nice, for example, if Josh becomes his old self again and returns to his former form. That would make us a bit more flexible at both full-back positions, which could ease the strain on our personnel, especially in light of Tim Leibold's injury.
