HSV Ties down Mario Vuskovic
The club has reached an agreement with Hajduk Split on an immediate transfer of the central defender and will provide him with a new contract until summer 2025.
Vuskovic stays on board until 2025! Hamburger SV continue their path of development and have agreed an immediate transfer of Central defender Mario Vuskovic. The Croatian U21 international had moved to the Elbe on loan from Hajduk Split in the summer of 2021 and quickly lived up to his reputation as a versatile defensive talent. After a short period of acclimatisation, the 20-year-old Croatian not only became a regular in the centre of defence, but also the best tackler (65.62 per cent tackling rate) for the Red Shorts. In the meantime, the right-footed player has played 17 competitive games for HSV, in which he was in the starting eleven 15 times. The sporting management around board member Jonas Boldt and sporting director Michael Mutzel have now succeeded in binding Vuskovic to the club until the summer of 2025 well before the end of his loan.
"Mario has developed strongly over the past few months. Despite his young age and the fact that he is playing and living away from his home country for the first time, he has developed in a rush into a very important component and regular player in our team," praises Boldt. "Accordingly, we are happy that we are continuing our joint cooperation. Mario was also keen to continue on his path here at HSV. We want to and will continue to support him in the best possible way and see a lot of potential in his athletic development." Mario Vuskovic is also happy to stay on board at HSV. "I don't think it's a given when you leave home for the first time that you feel at home so quickly. It's tremendous fun to be part of this young and hungry team. With our way of playing football, we still have a lot of plans and I'm happy that I can develop further at HSV," explains the right-footer.
HSV, home from the start
Mario Vuskovic was born on 16 November 2001 in Split, Croatia, and took his first footballing steps with RNK Split in his home town. In March 2016, the son of former professional Daniel Vuskovic moved to the traditional club Hajduk Split, went through all the youth teams there and celebrated his debut for the professionals in August 2019 at the age of 17. As early as the following 2020/21 season, the defensive all-rounder became an undisputed regular, playing for the Croatian youth national teams (U17, U19, U21) in parallel to his club career. Vuskovic thus attracted attention throughout Europe as a promising defensive talent, aroused the interest of international clubs and finally moved to HSV last summer on a two-year loan basis, who wanted to introduce the defensive talent to the competitive level in the 2nd Bundesliga. With resounding success: Mario Vuskovic also established himself as a regular player in Germany's second-highest division and has found a new home at HSV not only straight away, but now also in the medium term. Here's to three more successful years, Mario!
