HSV sign Immanuel Pherai
The Dutch midfielder joins Hamburger SV from Eintracht Braunschweig on a contract until 2027.
Hamburger SV have signed Immanuel Pherai from Eintracht Braunschweig. The 22-year-old midfielder has signed a contract with the club until 2027. “We are delighted that Immanuel has decided to commit to our journey and join HSV,” said director of sport Jonas Boldt, who revealed, “As a former player in the youth Bundesliga, he has been on our list for some time. His development, especially last season at Eintracht Braunschweig, finally pushed us to work intensively to sign him to HSV.”
The Dutch player had already moved to Germany to join Borussia Dortmund as an U17 player. Pherai played a total of 63 games for BVB in the A- and B-Junioren-Bundesliga, in which he scored 18 goals and made 34 assists. A loan spell in the Dutch Eredivisie to PEC Zwolle followed (27 games, two goals, three assists), before Pherai, who has made 38 appearances for the Netherlands national youth sides, played 31 games for the Dortmund U21s in the third division (six goals, seven assists) and then moved to Eintracht Braunschweig in the second division. After 29 competitive appearances with ten goals and seven assists in the 2022/23 season, he will now make the move to HSV and wear the number 10 shirt.
“I can’t wait to play in front of these fans“
“Immanuel is a real street footballer who is very bold and determined going forward,” said director of professional football Claus Costa. “He is technically strong, very quick and always looks for the direct path to the goal to be a threat himself or set up his teammates. Immanuel wants to have an impact, so we are very excited about him.”
The 22-year-old was determined to make the move to HSV and is eagerly anticipating the new season: “I can’t wait to play in this stadium and in front of these fans. They impressed me a lot when I came to play here with Eintracht. After that I said: I would like to play for HSV,” said Pherai, recalling his thoughts when deciding to make the move. Talks with his friend Ludovit Reis followed and then with the management and coach Tim Walter, “Now I’m just looking forward to getting started soon,” said Pherai, promising, “I love scoring and setting up goals, but most of all I always give my all on the pitch. The fans can rely on that.”
