HSV release special jersey for International Day of the Girl
The limited edition kit represents the values, dreams and self-identification of girls, having been designed by them themselves.
Together with children’s rights organisation Plan International and club sleeve sponsor HELM AG, HSV has released a new special jersey, encapsulating equality, diversity and empowerment. However, this kit is more than just a symbol, since it has been developed in collaboration with real HSV fans, with their creativity and passion visible in the shirt. Eight girls aged between 11 and 15, to whom HSV means everything, who regularly attend matches and who are part of the Young Ones fan group, co-designed this new kit in a special workshop in October 2024 to celebrate the International Day of the Girl.
The International Day of the Girl has been celebrated on 11th October each year since 2011 after being introduced by the UN following campaigns from Plan International. The aim of the day is to raise awareness of the challenges faced by girls and to consolidate their rights.
By purchasing this special jersey, you will assist the work of Plan International in supporting young women and girls, since a proportion of the proceeds from each kit will go directly to the children’s rights organisation. Those who wear this shirt act together as a symbol for the universal equality between girls and boys.
The workshop produced a clear outcome from the young HSV fans – the girls placed equality, freedom and diversity as their key values. These values were discussed alongside the dreams and desires they possess, as well as what unites them. From this, the 2024/25 special jersey was born. One thing in development was clear: this should be a true HSV kit that they and every fan can wear with pride.

That is certainly the case, since the colour scheme opted for by the girls provides a bold and unique look. Produced in collaboration with adidas and 11teamsports, light blue and neon orange accents stand out from the dark blue shirt. The centre-piece of the jersey sees a graphic designed by young HSV fan and artist Kid Overhead situated on the lower half, which serves to represent the girls’ key values of freedom, diversity, and happiness along with their overarching desire for an equal world. The text on the reverse of the neck reads: “Love Hamburg – Hate Sexism,” unequivocally expressing the message that the kit stands for. The jersey is rounded off by the light blue panels on either side of the shirt, accentuated by orange highlights.
Furthermore, each of the girls was assigned a number between one and nine, which Kid Overhead then integrated into the shirt numbers to encapsulate their values, dreams and passions right in the design as a unique illustration of their individuality. Throughout the creative process, each of the girls showcased their self-identification and self-confidence, expressing both their strength and desire to share their message with the world.
The active collaboration in the ideas process of both HELM AG and Plan International is also visible in the shirt design, with the Plan International logo situated on the left sleeve, while the label reading “Weltmädchentag powered by HELM” on the inner collar serves to represent the need for equality of both opportunity and rights.
This jersey is more than simply a fashion item. The shirt tells the stories of girls from Hamburg, while bringing attention to their dreams and desires, both on and off the football pitch. The kit will be worn by the HSV Women against Borussia Mönchengladbach (31st March) before it is donned by the Men’s first team away to 1. FC Nürnberg (5th April), on each occasion serving as a clear statement for a better and more equal world.
