HSV head to Sotogrande
Hamburger SV have headed to south Spain for their winter training camp for the third successive year. 32 players have made the trip, including several youngsters, though Ransford Königsdörffer is not on board. He is instead off to play at the Africa Cup of Nations.
HSV’s training camp in sunny Spain will begin on Thursday, 4th January. The club will be based in Sotogrande in the south of the country for nine days, initially flying to Malaga and then getting the bus to their final destination from there. As was the case in the last two years, the Rothosen will be based at the SO/ Sotogrande Spa & Golf Resort hotel and train at the Santa Maria Polo Club around 15 minutes away.
Head coach Tim Walter has named a 32-man squad for the trip to Spain. Several players currently on their way back from injury have been included, such as Sebastian Schonlau (calf injury), Ludovit Reis (shoulder operation) and Anssi Suhonen (broken fibula). While captain Schonlau will continue his recovery work in Sotogrande after another calf injury, the other two are set to return to team training in some capacity during the team’s time there. A number of youngsters have once again been given the chance to impress: Hannes Hermann (18, plays for HSV U19s), Felix Paschke (20), Luis Seifert (19, both play for HSV U21s), Fabio Balde (18), Bilal Yalcinkaya (17, both play for HSV U19s) and Otto Stange (16, plays for HSV U17s) will all be on the plane – the final three are involved in a first-team training camp for the first time.
While the 32 Rothosen in Spain work on their fitness and prepare for the second half of the season with friendlies against PSV (7th January) and FC Zürich (11th January), winger Ransford-Yeboah Königsdörffer is not currently with the team. The 22-year-old was named in Ghana’s squad for the Africa Cup of Nations, set to be played in Ivory Coast between 13th January and 11th February.
