HSV dissolve contract with Jonas David
The Hamburg native is set to leave the Rothosen after a decade at the club in search of a new challenge elsewhere.
HSV and Jonas David have agreed to dissolve the defender’s contract with immediate effect. The Hamburg native joined the HSV academy in 2014 from Eintracht Norderstedt and made his way up through the ranks of the club’s youth sides. His professional debut for the Rothosen came at age 18 on 3rd August 2018 on the opening day of the 2018/19 season against Holstein Kiel.
He went on to feature a further 58 times across all competitions for HSV in the years that followed, scoring twice. Both goals will be remembered fondly by Rothosen fans, with David playing a key role against 1. FC Nürnberg in the second round of the DFB-Pokal in 2021/22. Not only did he open the scoring, but he then netted the the winning penalty in the shootout to put HSV through to the next round. His second goal for the club came in the derby against St. Pauli on 21st April 2023, as he netted the 1-1 equaliser in a 4-3 victory for HSV.
David featured 26 times in 2022/23 for the club, the most appearances he managed in a single campaign during his time at the club. During his decade at the Rothosen, David was sent out on loan twice, first to Würzburger Kickers from January to June 2020 and then to Hansa Rostock last season. Now, the defender is seeking a new opportunity for himself, with the club wishing him all the best for the future. David will always be a welcome visitor to the Volksparkstadion.
