HSV beaten 2-1 by FCSB in friendly
Two penalties condemned HSV to defeat against Romanian side FCSB as the Rothosen concluded their training camp in Turkey.
Hamburger SV lost the second friendly of their winter training camp in Turkey on Friday (10th January). After defeating third-division side Alemannia Aachen on Monday, the Rothosen came up against Romanian outfit FCSB on the final day of the camp. FCSB are currently second in the Romanian top flight and are competing in the Europa League, with their next game in that competition against Manchester United. Two penalties were enough to secure a 2-1 victory for the side from Bucharest, though HSV can still be happy with their performance.
HSV began strongly and created several decent chances at the start of the game. Richter had two shooting opportunities in the first 10 minutes, before starting the move that resulted in the opening goal in the 11th minute. He picked out Sahiti with a lovely pass and the Kosovan drove forward with the ball, dribbling over 30 yards into the box before placing a shot past the goalkeeper.
Sahiti’s fine goal earned HSV just what they deserved after an excellent start to the game. The Rothosen remained on top, were confident in possession and kept things tight at the other end of the pitch. HSV goalkeeper Mickel was called into action for the first time in the 35th minute, blocking a close-range shot following a corner to ensure HSV were ahead at the break.
Both teams made a number of changes in the second half, with six new faces coming on for HSV. This new-look side then conceded the equaliser 10 minutes later. Hadzikadunic made a late challenge in the box and Tanase scored the resulting penalty. A few minutes after that, FCSB’s Olaru suffered a bad shoulder injury after a tackle on Pherai and the game was stopped for several minutes with around an hour played.
The flow of the game somewhat suffered after this unfortunate break. The friendly was extremely hard-fought –four yellow cards were issued in total – so it perhaps wasn’t a great surprise that FCSB’s second goal didn’t come from a well-worked move, but rather via a mistake by HSV youngster Agyekum. The defender couldn’t properly get the ball under control with his first touch and then brought down a striker while trying to make up for it. It allowed Popescu to put the Romanian side into the lead from the spot with around 20 minutes left to play. Despite good chances for Poreba and Hefti late on, HSV couldn’t draw level and therefore lost their final game of the training camp, even if their performance was certainly worth a lot more.
