Focusing on a third straight win: HSV begin their training week ahead of KSC home game
Karlsruhe are next up following Schalke: The Rothosen began their training week ahead of the first home game of the New Year with the momentum from the 2-0 away win against Schalke.
Tim Walter gave the HSV players the day off on Monday in order to rest their mind and legs following the energy-sapping away win at FC Schalke 04 and to recharge their batteries, but they were back at full-throttle on Tuesday. However, there were not as many players on the training pitch as last week in the first training session of the week ahead of the home game against Karlsruher SC. A few players completed slightly shorter sessions on the first day of training this week. For instance, Jean-Luc Dompe was missing due to a cold, whilst Stephan Ambrosius, as well as Immanuel Pherai had their workloads managed somewhat. Additionally, Sebastian Schonlau, William Mikelbrencis and Tom Mickel completed their individual rehab, whilst Omar Megeed, Felix Paschke and Saido Balde were with the U21s and Otto Stange was at school.
It was back to business for all the other players on the training pitch next to the Volksparkstadion. The focus was on the ball in various exercises, whilst the players later took part in a ten-a-side game with the extra free man Jonas Meffert operating as a central support player. Finally, all those participating in the session played a game to decide who would be collecting the balls this week, with this game being accompanied by a lot of jeering and yelling. At the end of the week, HSV have got their first home game of the New Year on Sunday (28th January), with the game against Karlsruher SC kicking-off at 13:30 CET at the Volksparkstadion. The Rothosen are aiming to extend their winning streak – following the two away wins against Nürnberg and Schalke – and want to pick up three points for the third game running.
