"Ferro kept us in the game"
HSV won 2:0 against Eintracht Braunschweig at the start of the season. Despite the success, the protagonists complained about a mixed performance and were quite self-critical after the final whistle. HSV.de presents the comments on the game.
Two key players of the 2021/22 season secured the first three points of the new season for HSV at the start of the 2022/23 season at Eintracht Braunschweig (2:0): At the back, the HSV player of the previous season, Daniel Heuer Fernandes, held the zero with an unbelievable performance and numerous saves, and at the front, Robert Glatzel (67th, 76th), the top scorer of the previous year, struck twice at the right moment and led his colours late on to the winning road. And between the goalkeeper and the centre-forward? The HSV team floundered too often against strong Braunschweig, especially in the first half, but ultimately kept its head above water and showed an improvement in performance in the second half, which was enough for three points. Nevertheless, Hamburg were self-critical after the game. Quotes from the game.
Daniel Heuer Fernandes: It was a stressful game for me, but in the end it is my job to be there in such moments. We just didn't do it well in possession in the first half. That was not our face. We invited the opponent to counter-attack chances far too often. We have to address that clearly. I tried to wake up the team. The coach also found clear words at half-time. In the end, it's a sign of quality when you still win after a weak first half. It worked better in the second half. Nevertheless, we saw once again: You don't get anything for free in this league.
Robert Glatzel: "Ferro" kept us in the game really well. It wasn't a good game, but it ended happily for us. Braunschweig is not a sure-fire winner. Nevertheless, the first half is not our standard. We didn't take the tackles well and we lacked self-conception. In the end, we have to take the positives with us. We kept a clean sheet and scored the goals. But we have a lot of work ahead of us. We have to do better, we ran into far too many counters. We can't expect "Ferro" to hold everything every time. We have to get rid of that quickly.
Xavier Amaechi: I am very happy about my first assistl for HSV. However, this is only the beginning. It was only the first game, there is still a lot more work to do. The coach has supported me since the first training session. That has boosted my confidence enormously. It's simply important that you feel this confidence as a young player and also get playing time.
Tim Walter: Of course it's not easy to get right into a game against a promoted team with a certain euphoria, playing in their own stadium. But nevertheless, it has to be said that for a long time we simply couldn't solve it well with regard to the Braunschweig counterattack and our remaining defence. At times I wondered what we had been training for the past four weeks. But sometimes you need a while to really get into it. We managed to do that in the course of the game, defended better and played to our offensive strengths. We are happy that we won this tough game at the start and that the season is really starting now.
Michael Schiele: I can't blame my team at all. Surely we have to lead at the break, maybe even 2-0, but we didn't manage that despite the best and numerous opportunities. Nevertheless, I saw that my team gave everything, created many chances and played a great game. We'll take that with us and want to reward ourselves next weekend and get our first points in this strong 2nd division.
