Dompé: "Here it is faster from one goal to the other"
With his qualities in a one-vs-one sitution, Jean-Luc Dompé elevated himself into the starting XI of the Rothosen. In an interview with HSV.de the 27-year-old spoke about the atmopshere at the Volksparkstadion, the difference between Belgian and German football and his quick settling into HSV.
30 sprints, seven crosses, four goal scoring opportunities and his first assist while wearing HSV colours: new signing Jean-Luc Dompé made a strong impression during the 3-2 victory in Kiel on the left flank. The 27-year-old frenchman having the drive to always look for the one-vs-one's, he has alredy dribbled his way into the hears of the HSV fans. The wouThis was already evident in the last home match against KSC (1:0), when the actions of the 1.70 metre tall whirlwind were admired with "Oohs" and "Ahs" from the stands and he enjoyed a standing ovation when he was substituted. "To be honest, I hardly notice such things during the game. Then I'm fully focused and in a bubble," the winger, who moved to the Elbe from Zulte Waregem in the summer, revealed in an interview with HSV.de. "Only after the match do I really notice the stadium and also the comments about my game."
The atmosphere in the Volksparkstadion made a lasting impression on Jean-Luc Dompé: "It's really nice to play here in front of so many fans. The atmosphere always motivates you to keep going and I hope that as many people as possible will be here again for the next game." The next game is on Saturday against Fortuna Düsseldorf. Under floodlights and with once again more than 45,000 fans in the stands, another big stage awaits the Frenchman, who in recent years has played primarily in the Belgian first division, where he scored eleven goals and provided 32 assists in 121 games. At the same time, it is a different stage to play on. "The playing level between the two leagues is about the same. But in the 2nd Bundesliga the intensity is definitely higher," reports Monsieur, "It's faster from one goal to another." A trademark that only suits him in his game.
Quickly Settled In
On and off the pitch, Dompé, who was born on 12 August 1995 in Arpajon, about thirty kilometres south-west of Paris, has already settled in very well at HSV and in Hamburg. "I have been very well received. The people are super friendly and are helping me to integrate in the best possible way," explains Jean-Luc. Especially the chemistry with top goal scorer Robert Glatzel, whom he recently served the important 1:0 in Kiel as if on a silver platter, seems to fit. "I quickly built up a good relationship with Bobby on and off the pitch. Of course, that helps on the pitch and makes it easier." Fellow countryman William Mikelbrencis is also making it easier for him to settle into a new environment. The 18-year-old right-back transferred from FC Metz to HSV immediately after Dompé. Since then, the first two Frenchmen in the history of the rhombus can almost only be found in a double pack - as was the case at the HSV.de appointment. When asked who has to look after whom here at the club, the two respond simultaneously with a hearty smile before Dompé answers responsibly and diplomatically: "For me, it's nice to have someone here who speaks the same language. Even though I communicate a lot with the other boys, it's helpful to talk to someone in their own language. And of course I try to help William integrate as well."
After all, he himself took off just as quickly as his sprints at HSV and can't wait to get back to collecting tempo runs, crosses, goal-scoring assists and, ideally, scorer points on Saturday. Nous y voilà!
