Baumgart: "Need to be there from the start"
Ahead of HSV's home game against 1. FC Nürnberg, HSV head coach Steffen Baumgart spoke to the media about which players are available and what they hope to achieve this weekend.
Only two days have passed since Hamburger SV were only narrowly eliminated from the DFB-Pokal at the hands of SC Freiburg (2-1). Now, the team are preparing to come up against eighth-placed 1. FC Nürnberg, who have won each of their last three league games. Hear what Steffen Baumgart had to say about…
…the personnel: Unlike in recent weeks, we won't be able to have a full squad to choose from this weekend. Glatzel, Hadzikadunic, Sahiti, Hefti are all unavailable, as are Schonlau and Meffert, who are both suspended. We have several absences to compensate for this time. However, I'm convinced that we will be able to put out a strong team.
"We will rely on the lads that are available"
…their approach to the game: We won't be doing anything fundamentally different or changing our formation due to the absences in our team. A back five has worked well recently and so we won't deviate from that – it's something we agree on within the coaching staff as well. That's not enough to guarantee a good result, but we will rely on the lads that are available and are confident that we will be able to be solid at the back while also creating chances and putting in a strong performance.
…1. FC Nürnberg: Nürnberg are a good example of how close the competition in this league is. Three matchdays ago, the coach was being questioned and the team were playing to avoid dropping into the relegation zone. Three games later, they're in the top half of the table. That’s how quickly things can change sometimes. Nürnberg have made some changes to their formation since matchday 6 that have worked out well, and they're in good form. We want to be there from the start and will need a top performance in order to pick up points at home against an in-form side. That's our aim. I think that this confidence can be carried into the game.
