"A mature and controlled performance"
HSV picked up their sixth home win of the season with a 2-0 win over Magdeburg. Here's the reaction to the game.
Jonas Meffert: I'm proud of the team for getting the win today. Magdeburg have a good style of play, so it was fun to just play football. Of course, the early lead played into our hands and did us good. After that, there were definitely more spaces in the game even if we didn’t use them so well. We weren’t clinical enough with our counter-attacks and our finishing, but 2-0 is a fair result.
Stephan Ambrosius: It wasn't an easy game because Magdeburg put up a great fight. For me as a defender, there's nothing better than keeping a clean sheet. We could definitely have scored one or two more goals, but 2-0 is a result that we can be happy with. It's always a great feeling to play in front of our fans, especially when they were singing my name. I'm delighted to be back in the starting eleven. I'm a footballer and I always want to play games. I feel fit and am looking ahead.
"We defended cleverly and kept our sixth clean sheet." Laszlo Benes
Daniel Heuer Fernandes: The games at home are always special. It's really enjoyable. It was a very mature and controlled performance from us. Of course, you can't completely control the game over 90 minutes, and Magdeburg are a good side who like to have possession. Our foundation is always the clean sheet. We have to work hard to ensure we don’t concede and "Stevo" (Stephan Ambrosius) and the defenders exemplified that from the start today.
Laszlo Benes: That was a very important win today. I think you could see that we’d had the cup tie in midweek. Nevertheless, we defended well and cleverly and kept our sixth clean sheet. That's a big positive. The fans are incredible they give us the energy we need from the very start to the last second..
Lukasz Poreba: I couldn't wait to play here at the Volksparkstadion. I wasn't nervous either, I was just waiting for my chance and I'm delighted that I was able to take them in both matches this week..
"I'm very pleased with our desire and our work out of possession." Tim Walter
Tim Walter: It wasn't so easy today after the game on Tuesday. Both teams were coming off the back of quite a lot of football and you could see that. We wanted to be a bit more compact and save a bit more energy. It has been an exhausting week. The lads did well. The opening goal was really well taken. On top of that, we didn't concede many chances. We won the ball a lot in the second half but didn't capitalise on it enough. Nevertheless, I'm very pleased with our desire and our work out of possession.
Christian Titz: It was a good performance up until the sending off. We got off to a good start and had several good chances to score in the opening 20 minutes. We forced them to run, we pressed them high and tried to force them into long shots. We went 1-0 behind because HSV also played well. We made a few mistakes to start the second half, but overall we had a lot of control of the game. There was a phase of the game where we had them penned in but we couldn’t rewards ourselves with a goal.
