“A deserved and important victory for us all”
Everyone at HSV was satisfied with their performance in the 2-0 away win at 1. FC Nürnberg. Here is the post-match reaction.
Sebastian Schonlau: I’m really proud of the team and everyone that was here today. We had 5,000 fans supporting us again. It was important to get the win for us as a team, but also for the fans because of how much they give us. We’ve regularly failed to pay their support back on the road this season.
It was an end-to-end game today. We had a lot of chances for counter-attacks in the first half, but we weren’t decisive enough. That changed though in the second half – you could tell how much we wanted to win. We kept things so tight after going 1-0 up. We have led in other games too, but today we were smart and showed we’ve learnt from the past. We were so motivated.
Robert Glatzel: I’m delighted with the win and my goal. I could and maybe should have put us in the lead earlier on in the game, I had some good chances. It kind of summed up our game today. We kept going though, never gave up and got what we deserved. Ultimately, it was a deserved and important win for us all. Nonetheless, not everything is positive right now. We are self-critical and know that a few things need to be better for the second half of the season.
Jonas Boldt: You could see that we’ve had a few difficult weeks, but we were extremely focused and committed today. It wasn’t easy with the interruptions to the game. As the match went on, it was clear that Nürnberg would have chances of their own. We definitely rode our luck at times, but that’s just normal. The lads never gave up and deserved to get the win.
Tim Walter: You could tell that we’d had to change a lot of things around at the start of the game. It was a bit back-and-forth in the first half and both sides had chances. There wasn’t much going on in midfield. There were a lot of counter-attacks instead. We started the second half well, but then we had to survive a bit of a scare as Nürnberg hit the bar. It was a bit of a wake-up call for us. The substitutes helped us out. After that, we calmed things down and had some fun. Then, Jean-Luc made sure that we got what we deserved.
Cristian Fiel: We mostly played how we wanted to. We had a few problems to begin with, but then we improved. There wasn’t much control. We had a few chances and you have to take them against a team like HSV, otherwise you start running into trouble. You saw their individual brilliance with the goals we conceded. It’s a tough one to take.
