2-2 draw away at Hansa Rostock
After a dominant first half which saw HSV go into the break 1-0 up, Rostock turned things around in the second half, only for the visitors to score a late equaliser.
Hamburger SV had to settle for a draw away to F.C. Hansa Rostock on Saturday, 17th February. Jean-Luc Dompé gave HSV a deserved lead in the first half (34’), however the home team recovered to go ahead after the break. Perea (50’) and then Gudjohnsen (82’) got their goals. The Rothosen were able to secure a point at the end thanks to Robert Glatzel’s leveller.
Dompe with the opener...
In HSV’s first game under Merlin Polzin, Reis replaced the suspended Benes in the only change to the starting XI. The Rothosen were compact right from the first whistle and got men behind the ball when the hosts had possession. Aside from a couple of dangerous balls across the box, Rostock failed to threaten Matheo Raab’s goal in the first half.
The best opportunity of the opening stages for HSV came for Robert Glatzel after a one-two with Van Der Brempt. His attempted was smothered by Hansa goalkeeper Kolke. The Belgian right-back was involved again as Hamburg took the lead, playing the ball across to the left wing. Via a slight deflection, it found its way to Jean-Luc Dompé, who beat his man with a step over and then toe-poked it past the keeper for 1-0 (34’). Given that the Rothosen had 60% possession and a 60% challenge success rate at the time of the goal, it was a deserved lead for the visitors. HSV kept things tight for the remainder of the first half, allowing the home team just a couple of half-chances.
...and Glatzel with the equaliser
After such a solid first half from a Hamburg perspective, the second half was anything but that. There were three clear-cut chances within the first five minutes, the first coming for Hansa. Brumado was clean through on goal, but couldn’t direct his shot on target. For HSV, Pherai’s shot from a good position was blocked, and then the hosts went up the other end and scored. Ingelsson hung a cross up to the back post and Perea headed in from close range (50’).
This firmly woke Rostock up and they were now on top against a shocked HSV side. The Hamburg attack was struggling to have an impact and, to make matters worse, the defence was also struggling too. Hansa had two more good chances, with Raab making two saves and then Ambrosius making an important block after his keeper was beaten. Rostock took the lead with eight minutes left to play, benefitting from Königsdörffer’s wayward pass. Gudjohnsen ran onto it, rounded Raab and slotted home for 2-1 (82’). With their backs now to the wall, the Rothosen fought hard to get an equaliser. Pherai’s cross was converted by Glatzel to at least earn a point from a real game of two halves.
