2-2 draw in friendly against PSV
Gui Ramos (7’) and Robert Glatzel (35’) were on the scoresheet for the Rothosen against PSV. Their striker Luuk de Jong (18’, 43’) got two goals on Sunday afternoon in Marbella.
HSV’s first friendly at the training camp in Sotogrande, Spain ended 2-2 against Eredivisie leaders PSV Eindhoven. Gui Ramos put his team ahead from a corner after seven minutes at the Marbella Football Center, only for Luuk de Jong to equalise after 18 minutes. Andre Ramalho was sent for a foul as the last man with around an hour gone and HSV were awarded a penalty, converted by Robert Glatzel (35’). De Jong levelled proceedings again two minutes before the break. The two coaches agreed during the interval to play the second half with 11v11, officially making it a new friendly. There were no goals during this next period of the game, meaning it ended 2-2 overall.
Four goals, a penalty and a red card
Tim Walter went with what could be considered his strongest XI on day four of the training camp. With Stephan Ambrosius (cold) and captain Sebastian Schonlau (only arrived on Sunday after his calf injury) both unavailable, Dennis Hadzikadunic and Gui Ramos played in the heart of the defence. Miro Muheim started on the left, even though he will be suspended for the opening league game of 2024 away to Schalke 04.
Despite an intense few days of training so far in Spain, HSV began brightly against the current Dutch league leaders. After Pherai had a shot blocked in the box (5’) and Benes’ cross for Glatzel was cleared at the last second by Boscagli, the subsequent corner brought about the opening goal. Benes’ delivery to the near post was headed home by Ramos to make it 1-0. PSV looked to dominate possession and play the way they have done so far in the Eredivisie, where they have won all 16 games so far this season. Former Gladbach striker Luuk de Jong flicked home Jordan Teze’s ball across the six-yard box to get PSV’s equaliser with 18 minutes on the clock.
HSV hung on despite some dangerous PSV attacks and were able to put together a threatening counter-attack. A long ball to Pherai saw him bundled over by PSV defender Ramalho (28’), who was sent off as he was the last man. Glatzel took the opportunity from the spot to give HSV the lead again (35’). De Jong, however, ensured that the two teams would be level at the break, heading in from a Veerman free-kick (43’). Discussions on the red card continued during the interval and that led to both clubs agreeing to play 11v11 after the break. In order to convince the referee to allow this to happen, a new game officially had to be organised.
“Second friendly” ends goalless
For the second half, or in this case the second friendly, Heyer replaced Van der Brempt and Raab came on in goal for Heuer Fernandes. The new goalkeeper was called upon right away, tipping a cross from Dest over the bar (55’). PSV had more of the ball than in the first half and the Rothosen sat back a bit more, looking to hit their opponents on the break. Raab was involved again in the 69th minute, this time holding a shot from Bakayoko. De Jong’s header hit the outside of the post to deny him a hat-trick and Raab again got the better of Bakayoko (83’) to earn himself a clean sheet.
HSV’s best chance in the second half came in the 78th minute. Nemeth teed up Jatta, but the winger couldn’t keep his shot down. Gambier was forced off with a knock shortly afterwards, replaced by Suhonen, making his return from his fractured fibula.
