0-4 HSV lose friendly at 1.FC Köln
Huseinbasic (48,50), Diehl (88th) and Schindler (120) scored the goals of the day in the 120 minute duel with the Bundesliga side.
Hamburger SV played its first friendly match of this year's winter preparation on Saturday afternoon (7 January): In the sold-out Franz-Kremer-Stadion in Cologne Müngersdorf with 5,700 spectators, the Hamburg team lost 0:4 (0:2) to 1. FC Cologne. Denis Huseinbasic (48th, 50th) scored twice for the Bundesliga team, as did Justin Diehl (88th) and Kingsley Schindler (120th).
A lot of movement...
HSV coach Tim Walter had to do without a sextet of players in the cathedral city, including Laszlo Benes (complaints during the warm-up), Anssi Suhonen (tendon injury), Tim Leibod (private matters), Miro Muheim (ankle contusion), Elijah Krahn and Tom Mickel (both in rehabilitation training), but at the same time he was able to enter 22 players in the match report, all of whom were waiting for their turn in the 4 x 30 minute match format. True to their DNA, both teams initially chose the footballing approach in the build-up to the game and provided plenty of ball movement in the opening phase, in which the hosts had the first shots through Steffen Tigges (4th) and Denis Huseinbasic (8th), but they missed the target by just as much as a deflected long-range shot by midfield motor Ludovit Reis (14th) and a follow-up shot by winger Bakery Jatta (20th).
Also in the second 30 minutes, both teams were very active. However, the game continued to take place between the penalty areas, where the flow of the game took a break due to increased duels and associated foul play. The Bundesliga team was the first to find the starting button again in this period, but failed in the person of Linton Maina (39th) from close range to HSV keeper Daniel Heuer Fernandes, who made a strong save with his foot. For Cologne, however, the top chance heralded a storm-and-force phase in which HSV found midfielder Florian Kainz particularly difficult to get hold of. Around the 45th minute, the Austrian twice set up captain Jonas Hector, who failed from a promising position, first with a header and then at the post. Huseinbasic then did better, standing in the right place twice in the penalty area and scoring within a few turns of the clock to make it 1:0 and 2:0 (48th and 50th). Hamburg, who had been too passive for ten to 15 minutes, had the chance to reduce the score to 1:2 shortly before the break. After a remarkable Kittel solo, Jatta missed from a few centimetres (57th).
... And plenty of changes
After the change of ends, both coaches made a lot of changes: Tim Walter made five changes, while Steffen Baumgart made ten. In the new suits, which first had to find their fit in the third 30 minutes, both teams created one top chance each at the beginning: Cologne's centre forward Justin Diehl (66.) missed the 3:0 after a promising counterattack, on the other side the substituted Jean-Luc Dompe as a cross provider and Xavier Amaechi as a header taker caused great danger (70.). The French winger continued to break through on the left side, but his passes and finishes were inconsistent and did not produce any results. On the other side, U19 player Diehl did not miss his second chance and scored shortly before the end of the third period to make it 3-0 (88th).
For the final period, HSV coach Walter gave many more players their chance, including goalkeeper Matheo Raab, who promptly distinguished himself with a powerful long-range shot from Diehl, deflecting the ball onto the crossbar (97th). In the following, the match was a long time without any further action worth mentioning, before Kingsley Schindler (120th) scored a dream goal to bring the final score to 4:0.
