“We’re left feeling disappointed”
HSV were subdued when talking about the 2-1 defeat against Darmstadt and the lack of chances taken.
The team were frustrated and disappointed following the defeat to Darmstadt. Despite having the bulk of possession and several chances, the team managed just one goal. HSV also had a penalty disallowed, after Simon Terodde was brought down in the box. The guests took home all three points from the Volksparkstadion. HSV.de have summed up all the post-match reaction:
Simon Terodde on...
...the overturned penalty: I felt Dursun make contact, so for me it was a clear penalty. When I heard the whistle, I was convinced that it wouldn’t be overturned.
...the team’s performance: Overall, it’s a deserved defeat. It was a wild game in the second half, which we were actually hoping to avoid. It was back and forth, and it didn’t go in our favour.
Daniel Thioune: I can’t accuse my team of not putting in the work to fight to come back after falling behind. What we lacked was clinical finishing. In those moments when we were attacking, we made too many mistakes in defence. There have also been some key decisions that haven’t gone our way recently. Against Hannover, it was Simon’s goal being deemed offside, and today it was the penalty. Overall, we’re disappointed but we will come back!
Markus Anfang: It was a tough game, like we’d expected. We were compact in defence and allowed just one chance in the first half. We were dangerous on set pieces and on the counter. That’s how we scored the opener. After we scored the second, HSV threw everything our way but we defended well. It was an emotional end to the game, and thanks in part to our goalkeeper, we were able see the game through successfully.
