“We showed that the whole of HSV is 100% together”
With promotion no longer a possibility, HSV at least ended the season on a positive note with a 4-1 home win against 1. FC Nürnberg. Here is the post-match reaction.
HSV knew going into the final game of the season against 1. FC Nürnberg that they could no longer achieve their goal of promotion. Nevertheless, a sold-out Volksparkstadion produced a fantastic atmosphere on the last day as the team secured a 4-1 win. Robert Glatzel’s injury-time penalty not only put the icing on the cake, but also meant he finished as the league’s joint-top goalscorer. Those interviewed after the game were naturally pleased with the performance and result, though their disappointment about only finishing fourth was still clear to see.
Matheo Raab: It was a deserved victory, there are no doubts about that. It was a good way to finish the season. We wanted to end on a high with a home win after not achieving what we set out to do this season. Our aim was to get the win for us and for our fans, which we thankfully did, but ultimately coming fourth is not what we had hoped for. We need more consistency next season if we want to get promoted.
"We wanted to end this disappointing season on a positive note" Robert Glatzel
Laszlo Benes: We didn’t achieve our goal for this season and that still really hurts. However, we wanted to give our all for the club and the fans in the final game. The fans once again supported us loudly from the first minute and pushed us forwards. We showed that the whole club is 100% together. It’s nice that we ended the season on a high with this good performance and convincing victory.
Robert Glatzel: We wanted to end this disappointing season on a positive note, that was important to us. I’m happy that we’ve done just that. I had stopped believing that I could finish as the top goalscorer as I was still one goal away – that just made my goal in injury time even more special. The golden boot means a lot to me because I’ve been working hard for it for a number of years, so I’m proud of it. It looked like I was going to finish as the runner-up again like in the last two years, so I’m even happier that I’ve achieved it now, especially while playing for this amazing club.
Steffen Baumgart: We put together a number of good moves in the first half, aside from the first few minutes, but also made a few mistakes. It was a good performance overall, even if I wish we’d taken more care in the final third and then created more chances as a result. We deserved the win, but it didn’t mean anything in terms of the table after we’ve slipped up too often over the course of the season. We’re currently analysing the campaign to work out what we need to do better next time around.
