Until 2026: HSV and Heyer extend contract
The defensive specialist's contract, which expires in the summer of 2023, will be extended ahead of schedule for another three years. Sporting director Michael Mutzel: "He gives our team a special stability."
Together with Heyer into the future: Hamburger SV has prematurely extended the contract with Moritz Heyer, which expires in the summer of 2023, by three more years until the summer of 2026. In doing so, the club is retaining one of the most versatile players in the 2. Bundesliga for the long term and, following the contract extensions with Mario Vuskovic, Miro Muheim and Maximilian Rohr, is setting the next sign of continuity. Heyer, who joined HSV from VfL Osnabrück in mid-September 2020, has since played a whopping 60 of the 64 possible competitive matches for HSV. In the process, the native of Ostercappeln has proven his versatility and reliability in all defensive positions and also presented himself as a defender capable of scoring goals with seven goals and four assists.
"We are very pleased that we were able to convince Moritz to stay at HSV for the long term. In the past two seasons, he has established himself as an absolute regular and key player and gives our team a special stability. We are confident that he will continue to develop athletically in the future," explains sports director Michael Mutzel. Heyer is also pleased about his early contract extension and emphasises: "I have felt great trust at HSV from day one and feel very comfortable here overall. That's why I made a conscious decision to extend my contract at this point in time, regardless of the outcome of the season. I am looking forward to being a part of this club in the years to come. It's an honour to wear the badge on my chest and I'm determined to continue helping to achieve our sporting goals."
From Osnabrück to Hamburg
Moritz Heyer was born on 4 April 1995 in Ostercappeln in Lower Saxony and grew up in neighbouring Bramsche. He took his first steps in football as a child and teenager with 1. FCR 09 Bramsche (1998-2005) and TSV Wallenhorst (2005-08) before switching to the youth team of VfL Osnabrück in 2008. From then on, Heyer played his way through all the youth teams at the Lila-Weißen and moved to regional league side Sportfreunde Lotte for the 2014/15 season, where he celebrated promotion to the 3.Liga in his second season. For the 2018/19 season, Heyer moved within the 3.Liga to Hallescher FC and returned home to his training club one year later. At VfL Osnabrück, he also impressed straight away in the 2. Bundesliga and came onto the radar of Hamburger SV, who in turn signed Heyer permanently in the September of 2020. Since then, the 1.85-metre right-footer has developed into one of the most versatile and consistent players in the league, who still has potential.
HSV and Heyer were an instant match and, following the early extension of his contract, will remain a constant in the Rothosen team in the future.
