Top guys & record-breaking stats
The 1-0 floodlit home win against Karlsruher SC was a rousing duel with record-breaking numbers and real top guys. And for them there is now also the chance to be voted "Man of the Match".
On Saturday, HSV and Karlsruher SC fought a hot battle, which HSV managed to win in the Volksparkstadion, filled with more than 45,000 fans. And this close but deserved 1:0 home victory produced some numbers and also names that are also contenders for the "Man of the Match" award. Daniel Heuer Fernandes, for example, played to nil for the fifth time in seven games this season, Mario Vuskovic was the relentless and best defender on the pitch, Jonas Meffert reeled off his usual sovereign and reliable performance like Swiss clockwork, Jean-Luc Dompé thrilled the spectators with his dribblings on the left wing and Ludovit Reis toiled for two and also scored the goal of the day. Ergo: A lot of good guys and a hell of a lot of good work, which, however, was done above all as a team, as the players also emphasised in the voices on the game.
"Our defence is our foundation"
And so, after seven games, the Rothosen are still in the top group of the league and, quite incidentally, are also delivering some absolute top scores. With only three goals conceded after seven matchdays, the Reds have by far the best defence in the league and have broken a second-league record that has existed for more than ten years. Accordingly, the figure of five games to nil is also absolutely unique, something that has never happened before and is a new club record. "Our defence is our foundation," praised coach Tim Walter after the 1-0 win, which was already the fifth treble of the season. In addition to the two home victories against 1. FC Heidenheim and now against KSC, HSV also scored three times in all three away games and thus extended its season-long record of victories away from home to eight in a row - also a club record. So there are a lot of positive numbers to be happy about at the moment.
