“That was a very dominant performance”
HSV won 3-0 at 1. FC Magdeburg on Friday evening. Ransford Königsdörffer bagged a brace, forced an own goal and was able to celebrate the win alongside the returning Robert Glatzel. Here’s all the reaction from the match.
Ludovit Reis: We knew that Magdeburg have a very strong team, but we put in a really good performance, had lots of possession in the first half, defended well in the second and deserved the win in the end. Today, we showed just how much quality we have in the team. We’re delighted with this win and that Bobby is back, which is a bonus.
Daniel Elfadli: That was a very dominant performance from us. We made a strong start and then defended really well later in the game. I know Magdeburg’s team better than anyone, and I knew what we were up against, but we played brilliantly and dominated the match. We also had Ransi on our team today, who had an unbelievable game. We’re so happy for Bobby too that he could return to action today.
"I’m most pleased about the great performance from Ransi" Robert Glatzel
Miro Muheim: We came here to win the game and we did that in very dominant fashion. The coaching staff had an idea for the full-back positions which meant I would play on the right. We trained like that all week and it’s obviously great that it worked out. You could see how much quality we have in attack, including with Ransi, who was brilliant today.
Ransford Königsdörffer: We put in a great performance today. We worked brilliantly as a team in both attack and defence. I knew I had a chance to show what I can do today and I wanted to do exactly that. The game today suited me perfectly and I could exploit the spaces. I’m pleased that I could help the team. Now, we’re going into the international break top of the table. That gives us a chance to clear our heads before we give everything again for the final push.
Robert Glatzel: It was special for me to be back in the fold today. Being together with the team in the dressing room, celebrating with the fans after the match, and the fans singing my name when I came on – it was all very emotional. The most important thing though is that the team played really well today. I’m most pleased about that and the great performance from Ransi in particular.
"A lot of things went exactly as we’d planned" Merlin Polzin
Merlin Polzin: It was a very successful evening for us, because a lot of things went exactly as we’d planned. We pressed very high to start with and won the ball back at important moments, then later in the game we defended a bit more compactly, because FCM’s style of play is hard to defend against. I have to compliment the team and the coaching staff who meticulously prepared for this game all week. It’s great that everything went how we’d planned and the team got their reward with the three points.
Christian Titz: When you go 2-0 down so early on against such a strong opponent, it’s obviously going to be very difficult for you. We didn’t defend well for the goals, and we made too many mistakes in general today. We made three changes for the second half and tried to add new energy, but after the third goal the game was essentially decided.
