Sven Höh extends contract at HSV
The Rothosen’s goalkeeping coach is staying long term. HSV’s director of sport Jonas Boldt: “He has pushed our keepers to the next level.”
Hamburger SV have given goalkeeping coach Sven Höh a long-term contract extension. The 39-year-old from Pfalz moved to HSV from 1. FC Kaiserslautern ahead of the 2021/22 season and has continuously helped the Rothosen’s goalkeepers to improve their game further with his own philosophy.
“Sven has pushed our keepers to the next level with his style and his conception of a modern goalkeeper. Our lads’ noticeable individual development is just one piece of evidence of his outstanding work,” explained HSV’s director of sport Jonas Boldt, whilst additionally pointing to Höh’s temporary involvement with the Turkey national team during last September’s international break. “Such a request wasn’t and isn’t to be taken for granted, and it underlines the appreciation and attention that our work is currently receiving over the border.”
Expertise and team spirit
Sven Höh, who not only has a high level of expertise when it comes to goalkeeping, but is also committed to close cohesion and great togetherness among the goalkeepers, said: “My Role and my duties at HSV fully fulfil me and I’ll continue to try to contribute towards achieving our goals every day with maximum energy. I would like to express my thanks to Jonas and Claus for their appreciation of my work and their trust in me.” He went on to say: “HSV definitely isn’t just a short-term project for me. Of course it’s also my goal to reach the Bundesliga, but I would like desperately like to achieve that together with HSV, the team, my colleagues and our outstanding fans.”
Höh had been Kaiserslautern’s main goalkeeping coach in the youth academy since 2009 before his move to HSV. He coached the older academy teams, was responsible for the goalkeeper training philosophy and goalkeeper scouting, and brought numerous goalkeeping talents to Kaiserslautern in the process. He was then promoted to the first team as the goalkeeping coach in February 2020, before moving to HSV to take up the same role ahead of the 2021/22 season. Alongside his duties with the first team, he also is in direct contact with the youth academy. In addition to the first-team goalkeepers’ development, closer interaction and a more coherent philosophy has come about in the Rothosen’s goalkeeping department. “Sven has sharpened and continually developed the goalkeeping structures in the academy over the last few years. He’s always thinking outside of the box. The goalkeeping coach training course that was run at the Volksparkstadion in November with over 160 ambitious football coaches from the surrounding area also speaks for his vision and energy,” explained director of first-team football Claus Costa.
