Sahiti: “It felt amazing”
New signing Emir Sahiti speaks to the media about his HSV debut, the reasons for joining the club and his relationship with Mario Vuskovic.
In a spectacular ending to the 5-0 win over Regensburg, where Jean-Luc Dompe excelled late on, summer signing Emir Sahiti’s debut flew somewhat under the radar. The Kosovo international (four caps), who signed on deadline day from Hajduk Split, almost marked his first appearance with an assist, but Davie Selke couldn’t quite get on the end of his delivery. The 25-year-old showed just a glimpse of his talent in that moment, and was impressed by the atmosphere at the Volksparkstadion, as he revealed on Tuesday when talking to the media before training. He also discussed…
…his HSV debut: It felt amazing. It was the first time that I’ve played in front of such a big crowd, it was really impressive. We’re happy about the 5-0 win, but now we need to leave that game in the past and switch our focus to the next game. We’ve got a big target to achieve – we’re all desperate to get promoted with this club. In order to do so, we want to win every game and push each other to perform to our best.
…his move to HSV: It’s no secret that there was contact two years ago and that I’d have liked to have joined back then. Unfortunately, the transfer didn’t come to fruition, but that’s just how it goes sometimes in football. I still gave my all, focused on my work at Hajduk and worked hard on myself. I then got another chance to come here and leaving Split after six years was the right time for me. I’m happy to be here and to get the chance to impress at such a big club.
…his relationship with Mario Vuskovic: I played together with him at Hajduk Split for two years and also spoke to him about the club, the players and life here before I joined. I feel for him so much that he won’t be able to play for so long. At the same time though, I hope all the support he’s received from people at Hajduk Split, everyone here at HSV, his friends and the fans will help him to return.
