Robert Glatzel is staying at HSV!
HSV’s top goalscorer Robert Glatzel has decided to stay at the club. “We’re pleased that we’ll continue to work together with him,” said Stefan Kuntz.
HSV can officially announce that Robert Glatzel will be staying at the club. The Rothosen’s top goalscorer from 2023/24 is now set for his fourth season with the club. “HSV, the fans and Hamburg mean an awful lot to me, I’ve mentioned that on a number of occasions,” explained Glatzel. “Nevertheless, I said after the season that I would have to think about my future and would speak to the club. The conversations were really intense, respectful and positive.” These discussions ultimately ended in Glatzel choosing to remain at HSV: “I can’t wait for the new season. I want to play my part in us achieving our targets.”
The 30-year-old has been HSV’s top goalscorer in each of his three seasons with the club, scoring 22 goals in his debut campaign, 19 in his second and 22 again last term. Glatzel also finished last season as the second division’s top goalscorer for the first time. In all competitions, the striker has scored 69 goals in 113 matches for the club at an impressive average of 0.61 goals per game.
Stefan Kuntz is unsurprisingly pleased that Glatzel is staying: “Bobby is a really important player for our team and we’re naturally happy that he’s chosen to stay at HSV,” explained the club’s board member for sport. “We had positive, intense and open discussions, where we told Bobby of our plans and the important role he would play in them. Bobby gave us the impression that he didn’t believe his journey at HSV had ended, nor his personal development. I also have the feeling that he can get even better under Steffen Baumgart and Steffen can get even more out of him. We’re all therefore delighted to continue working with him at HSV.”
Director of first-team football Claus Costa was thrilled with the decision, adding how he believes that Robert Glatzel “plays an important role within the team, not only with his footballing ability, but also his personality away from the game.” Glatzel has developed into a leader at HSV, and has many responsibilities both on and off the pitch. His opinions are valued highly and he has scored an impressive number of goals for the side, yet, at the same time, is a real team player and commits 100 percent to the club. Costa regards this as the perfect mix: “We’re delighted that he will continue to add value to our team and lead the way with his attacking quality, goals, impressive work ethic, and drive to succeed. Bobby plays a vital role in both our game and our club.” This will, without a doubt, continue into the new campaign.
