Richter: "Something truly special"
HSV’s new acquisition Marco Richter spoke to the press about how he thought his debut for the Rothosen went, and what his targets are with the club.
Marco Richter celebrated his debut for HSV in a sold-out home stadium on Saturday. The reaction of the Nordtribüne to the eventual 4-1 victory over SC Preußen Münster left quite the impression for the 26-year-old. The man from Bavaria had already experienced the feeling of playing in front of the Volksparkstadion crowd during his previous visits to Hamburg, but to feel it while wearing HSV colours meant a lot to Richter, as he told the media on Wednesday. Marco Richter spoke about ...
...his home debut: My first game at a sold-out Volksparkstadion was something truly special. I’ve played at the ground on a number of occasions, but to be part of the home team was really cool. It felt great just coming out for the warm-up, it was so loud straight away. I knew how loud it is here, but it felt even more intense in my first game for HSV and I really enjoyed it. It just made it all the more special that we could secure a deserved three points in the end.
...his role in the team: I’ve got a good level of experience and want to use that to help the younger players, as well as take on responsibility for the team. At the same time though, I can obviously learn new things and I’m excited about my move to HSV. I didn’t need long to think about moving here when the contact was made. The whole package really worked and I had an extremely positive conversation with Mr. Baumgart, whilst I’d never lost touch with my former U21 coach Mr. Kuntz.
...his targets with HSV: I’m an extremely versatile player. I can play out wide and I also really enjoy playing in a more central role – I just want to be getting minutes, that’s what matters. The coach ultimately decides where I’ll play and I’ll just give my best whatever. There is real competition for places here, but I naturally want to play, give the HSV fans something to cheer about, help the team and play my part in HSV achieving their main target of being at the top of the table come the end of the season.
