On Loan: HSV Signs Tommy Doyle
The English U21 International signs on a one year loan deal from Manchester City.
On the last day of the 2021/22 summer transfer period, Hamburger SV have strengthened their squad with another talent: after centre-back Mario Vuskovic, midfielder Tommy Doyle has also joined the Elbe. The 19-year-old Englishman joins HSV on loan from Manchester City and receives a one-year contract with the Red Shorts. "Tommy is a very interesting box-to-box player who we have been watching intensively for a long time. He has a good overview, an excellent passing game and, despite his young years, is a player who leads the way on the pitch. We are therefore very pleased that we were able to reach agreement on the loan," explains HSV sports director Michael Mutzel. Doyle is also looking forward to his new role at HSV: "It feels great. I am glad that the transfer has gone through. I can't wait to play in this beautiful stadium and hit the ground running with this team."
Football in the Blood
Tommy Glyn Doyle was born on 17 October 2001 in Manchester, England. A fan of Manchester City from a young age, where his two grandfathers Mike Doyle and Glyn Pardoe, now deceased, are club legends, Doyle took his first footballing steps at Sandbach United Football Club. He then joined Manchester City at the age of eight and has since progressed through all of the Citizens' youth teams. In the past two years, the 1.72 metre tall right-footer has also knocked on the door of the professionals. Under head coach Pep Guardiola, he made seven competitive appearances for the reigning English champions, with whom he is still under contract until the summer of 2025. In addition, the 19-year-old has played a total of 50 games for the Citizens' U23 team since the beginning of 2018, in which he scored nine goals and made 15 assists and was promoted to captain. Parallel to his training at the traditional English club, Doyle, who can be deployed in defensive and central midfield, passed through all of England's youth national teams. He played a total of 29 international matches (seven goals) from the U16 to the U20 level and was recently nominated for the U21 national team for the first time. With the "Young Lions", Doyle will face Romania in a friendly and Kosovo in a European Championship qualifier in the current international season. Afterwards, the Englishman, who last season decided against a loan deal in order to establish himself with the "Citizens", will start his new chapter at HSV. Welcome to Hamburg, Tommy!
