Wintzheimer back in action in time for tripleheader
The 21-year-old returned to training after a less than successful time with Stefan Kuntz’s German youth side.
Manuel Wintzheimer has certainly been through the ringer over the past couple of days, firstly being called up to the German under-21 side for the first time in his career, before being sent home hours before the game against Moldova with HSV teammate Stephan Ambrosius, who had tested positive for coronavirus. As a precaution, after returning to Hamburg, Wintzheimer was separated from the team, training on his own, before joining up with the rest of the squad on Wednesday (14th October).
After several negative test results in consecutive days, the attacker was able to rejoin his teammates in their preparations for Saturday’s fixture away to Greuther Fürth (kick-off 1:00pm), where Wintzheimer will be looking to put a hectic week behind him and carry on his personal run of form. Manager Daniel Thioune was also happy to see the youngster back in the fray: “With the performances that he has shown over the past few weeks, he’s definitely an option for the weekend.” Wintzheimer won’t be joined by Josha Vagnoman (torn ankle ligaments), David Kinsombi (torn muscle fibre in calf) and Tim Leibold (problems with adductors) in Franconia, the trio very unlikely to have recovered in time for Saturday. Thioune will be hoping he will see some of the trio back in action sooner rather than later, with the game in Fürth followed by the rearranged home fixture against Aue on Wednesday (kick-off 6:30pm) and Würzburger Kickers on the following Saturday (24th October, kick-off 1:00pm). A tricky tripleheader, but Wintzheimer is showing the way, optimistic and unaffected by his eventful time with the German under-21s.
