Stephan Ambrosius signs professional contract
The 19-year-old defender, who has been at HSV since 2012 and made his Bundesliga debut this season, has signed a new contract that will run until June 2021.
While the hotly anticipated season finale is drawing ever closer, HSV continue to work on putting together their squad for the coming years. On Friday (11th May), Stephan Ambrosius signed his first professional contract which now runs until 30th June 2021. His previous contract was set to expire in 2019. The 19-year-old defender has made 20 appearances this season (one goal scored) for the HSV Under-21s, as well as being selected to the first team squad on six occasions and making his debut away to Stuttgart. “Stephan has come along really well and is a prime example of an academy success story. His aggression and his pace are two really important attributes for his position. We’re confident that he’s now ready to take the next step,” praised HSV squad planner, Johannes Spor.
Ambrosius has played for the Rothosen since 2012 and throughout that time has represented every youth team. “As someone who’s from Hamburg, it’s a great feeling for me and my family to know that I’ve been given the opportunity to sign a professional contract and stay here. Christian Titz is also a manager that is very committed to my development and has helped various young players make the transition to the Bundesliga level this season. Now I want to make the most out of his trust to keep developing. I know that I’ll need to work hard to do that,” said the Hamburg-born Ambrosius. Following in the footsteps of Fiete Arp, Tatsuya Ito, Josha Vagnoman and Törles Knöll. Stephan Ambrosius is the fifth academy player who has made their Bundesliga debut this season. On top of that, Mohamed Gouaida and Matti Steinmann have both made the transition from the Under-21s to the first team after their strong performances at that level. With all of this, HSV has continued its commitment to youth development from the academy to the first team.
