Laszlo Benes departs HSV
HSV have announced the departure of Slovakian midfielder Laszlo Benes, who will join 1. FC Union Berlin after spending two seasons with the Rothosen and making a total of 64 appearances for the side.
Laszlo Benes has agreed a deal to leave HSV and move to 1. FC Union Berlin, making use of an exit clause in his contract to join the Bundesliga side. The midfielder’s decision to depart the club, which will see him officially become a Union player at the end of June, guarantees a fixed transfer fee for the Rothosen.
“Laci” Benes’ move to Berlin will see him return to the top flight, where he competed for his former club Borussia Mönchengladbach. The 26-year-old left the Foals in the summer of 2022 to join Hamburger SV, proceeding to play a total of 64 games for the side and contributing to 42 goals (21 scored, 21 assists). “Laci left his heart out on the pitch over the past two years and did everything he could to contribute towards the club’s success,” explained director of first-team football Claus Costa , praising the 26-year-old’s work ethic. “He proved his ability last season in particular, and is now looking to take the next step in his career playing in the Bundesliga. We have to accept that, and we wish him all the best and every success for the future.”
Benes has given Hamburger SV his best wishes for the future and bade farewell to the club, the city and the supporters with these words: “I would like to thank the HSV fans, my teammates and the management for the last two years. I would have loved to make it to the Bundesliga with this great club – unfortunately, we couldn’t quite manage it in the end. It’s a huge disappointment and still hurts a lot. Nevertheless, I am very proud to have played for one of the biggest clubs in Germany. My family and I felt right at home at HSV and in Hamburg, and I will always look back fondly on my time here. I wish the club and its incredible fans nothing but the best. HSV will always have a place in my heart.”
