Jairo Samperio extends HSV contract

The 25-year-old midfielder, who missed the early part of this season with a serious knee injury, has signed a one year extension to his current contract as he attempts to return to the first team.

Jairo Samperio has signed a one year extension to his Hamburger SV contract, which now runs until 30th June 2020.The midfielder, who arrived last summer from Spanish side Las Palmas, suffered a nasty knee injury after making three appearances for the Rothosen so far this season. The Spaniard suffered cruciate ligament and medial collateral ligament damage in his right knee. “Jairo settled into life at HSV very quickly and integrated himself into the squad superbly well. He has shown a good attitude after suffering his serious injury very well and he has always been in tune with our collective thoughts and aims,” explained HSV head of sport Ralf Becker. “We stood by him through his difficult period and accompanied him through his rehabilitation. He has made some good progress and if he continues to progress at this rate, we hope to have back on the pitch for the start of next season.”

The 25-year-old Spaniard, who made 72 Bundesliga appearances and scored 11 goals for 1. FSV Mainz 05 between 2014 and 2017, was pleased regarding the faith the club have put in him as he continues to recover. He also said: “I’m proud to have signed a contract extension to keep me connected with HSV for another season. I would like to thank everyone connected with the club for their continued faith in me, for the tireless support from the coaching team, the medical staff as well as my teammates who have continued to stand by me while I was injured and also now as I attempt to make my comeback. I’m delighted to have the opportunity to play my part in the next chapter of this club’s history.”
