HSV sign defender David Bates
The 21-year-old defender from Scotland has joined the Rothosen from Rangers on a four year deal.
HSV are planning for the future and are starting to shape their new squad and we are therefore pleased to announce our first new signing for next season in the form of central defender David Bates, who currently crafts his trade at Rangers. The Scotsman completed his medical at HSV today and subsequently signed a four year contract at the club.
The 193cm tall right footer, who was born in Kirkcaldy, Scotland and played for Raith Rovers in his youth, made his debut in April 2017 in the Scottish Premiership for Rangers. The team from Glasgow signed him in January 2017 after having loaned him for the first half of the season. Bates also featured in the Europa League for Rangers but moves to Hamburg for free after the expiration of his contract as he is looking to continue the development of his career by the Else.
Johannes Spors, head of recruitment and the scouting department at HSV, doesn’t only view the 21-year-old’s move as a positive for footballing reasons: “David brings a mixture of size, speed, mentality and responsibility which is key at the back and will do HSV the world of good. He’s a down-to-earth guy who wants to develop and will work hard to do so,” explained Spors.
