HSV sign Christoph Moritz

After completing the transfers of David Bates and Manuel Wintzheimer already this summer, HSV have now confirmed their third new arrival for the 2018/19 season. The 28-year-old has moved on a free transfer from 2. Bundesliga side 1. FC Kaiserslautern after their relegation to the third tier. He passed his medical at the Eppendorf University Hospital on Wednesday and signed a contract until 20th June 2020. “Christoph Moritz is a footballer with a lot of technical ability and a brilliant understanding of the game to go alongside a wealth of top and second flight experience. He will definitely help us to get better,” explains HSV’s director of scouting, Johannes Spors. Moritz himself is also looking forward to taking on this new challenge: “I’m really convinced with the way in which the management are looking to take this team going forward. We have a tough task ahead of us, but I’m looking forward to the challenge and will hopefully be able to help us to achieve our goals by bringing my experience both on and off the pitch.”

Christoph Moritz was four years old when he started his footballing career at Viktoria Arnoldsweiler and was developed in the youth academy of TSV Alemannia Aachen from 2006 to 2009. Then he moved to FC Schalke 04 and became a Bundesliga regular. Moritz played in 69 competitive games for the Royal Blues, as well as three Champions League ties. He was also a DFB-Pokal winner in 2011. He then ended up at Kaiserslautern via Mainz (2013-2016), where he has spent the last two years. He played in 30 games for them in the 2. Bundesliga as captain this year, scoring four goals and assisting one.
