HSV bag Simon Terodde on one-year deal
The 32-year-old striker moves up north from 1. FC Köln and signs a one-year contract at the Volksparkstadion.
Hamburger SV have bolstered their attacking options for the 2020/21 season by securing the services of centre forward Simon Terodde, who joins from 1. FC Köln on a free transfer. The 32-year-old successfully completed his medical at the university hospital on Thursday morning (20th August), paving the way to put pen to paper on a contract which keeps the German in Hamburg until the 30th June 2021. “We’re very happy that we were able to get this transfer over the line. Simon Terodde knows the league and has shown on many occasions that he knows where the goal is,” explained HSV Head of Sport Jonas Boldt. “Simon is fired up to represent HSV and the task of developing and improving our young team with his experience and quality.” Terodde himself can’t wait for the challenge which lies ahead: “Contact between the two parties had been there for a while, but in the end it was the discussions with the manager which were decisive. After that, the decision to join HSV was easy.”
Simon Terodde was born on the 2nd March 1988 in the town of Bocholt, near to the Dutch border in the state of North-Rhine Westphalia, and made his first steps towards becoming a professional with MSV Duisburg, Fortuna Düsseldorf and 1. FC Köln. The striker enjoyed his longest spell at a single club at Union Berlin between 2011 and 2014, before moving through the second division with VfL Bochum and VfB Stuttgart before returning to 1. FC Köln. With all three of his most recent employers, Terodde was able to secure the Golden Boot in the 2. Bundesliga (2016, 2017 and 2019), and has been involved in 152 goals in his 220 games in the second division.
Before his time properly begins at HSV, the team player wanted to make it clear that personal records are of secondary importance to him. “It’s all about the success of the team, which I would like to contribute towards with good performances,” summarised Terodde in terms of his aims for the season. “We have a very young and hungry team, that has a lot of potential and which I can help to develop with my experience. I have the feeling that I will fit in very well here.”
